Database loaders in pf2.2

Hello:

   I have Performer 2.2 installed on an O2 (standard installation via
the software manager) and when I try to view a .3ds file, it states
that an appropriate loader (pfLoadFile3ds) cannot be located. I
checked the /usr/lib/libpfdb directory and the loader for 3dstudio
files is there (libpfdb3ds.so, .so.2, .so.3, .so.4).
   I get a similar error message when I run the MAK demo from the
friends of performer CD.
   Is my installation faulty? Do I need to set up some environment
variable or is this a bug? Thanks for your help.
