ASD file specification

Hello,
        I would like to know if the file specification for the ASD format is
available somewhere or if I may obtain it somehow.
        I would like to know how to write out an ASD-format file from a
non-Peformer program. The file would then be read in by Performer (probably
into perfly initially).
        Any help would be greatly appreciated
