Paul Haeberlis tools probably let you do this. There on the Developers
Toolbox but they may also ship with some component of the OS.

I tend to use MultiGen for this type of thing.
In the image editor you can add an alpha channel convert intensity to
alpha, grab the alpha image as a brush load the rgb image add an alpha
channel and paint the alpha information from the brush taken from the
other image.

Or something like that.
