Yes, this is where I am hitting a wall. If I restart the graphics with
1900x1200 downloaded to eeprom, the list of available stereo visuals is
very slim. I get basically two visuals with stereo, and neither have
doublebuffers. This is to be expected, though, since I am confined to
a "tiny" pixel depth at 1900x1200.
Without the appropriate visuals, I am resigned to implementing full
screen stereo. The problem is, not even STR_BOT or STR_RECT seem to be
giving me stereo buffers.

Am I correct in thinking that this vfo would be for a
STR_RECT flavor? In this format I draw both to the top
half and the bottom half of the screen, and the images are superimposed
when I call setmon.

Yes, this is root of the problem. But, what I am planning on doing is
implementing a stereo toggle option. So my application will initially
run with the 1900x1200 display. Should stereo be switched on, I'll
switch to an appropriate video format and run the stereo image full
screen.
But that is later down the road, at this point I would be happy getting
any kind of stereo running given that the managed aread must be
1900x1200.
Actually, I've got stereo applications for quad-buffered stereo and
top/bottom stereo in GL, OpenGl, and Performer. They all work great if
I start the X server with a defualt of 1280x1024. But as soon as I
gfxstop and gfxstart with 1900x1200 saved to eeprom, none of my stereo
examples work.
Is old style STR_RECT a viable option, given my hardware restraints
and the excessive managed area?
Thanks for all the insight and great advice...
