And by the way, odd behaviour was exhibited by more than one application,
some of which hadn't been compiled in a year or so. And a few of which
we were given only the executable, so recompiling is not even an option.

Thanks for the info Marcus, it seems to be the best answer I've
seen so far, but ...

What happens if you're running 6.2, as in our case?
