I think Angus answered the ABI question, on the coredump problem, it works fine
on my machine too, my guess is that you have a SW installation problem, you
could look at the performer inst that you have and make sure you have
corresponding _dev and _eoe subsystems. Also check that you have pf 2.2 MR (
were you ever a Beta customers ? ), do:

elfdump -L /usr/lib/libpf* | grep IVERSION

You should see a long list of things like:

[35] IVERSION sgi4.0.440
                        ^^^ this is the pf 2.2 alpha number, 440 was the MR
version.

Also make sure you have up to date patches, at least patch 1935 ( the gfx patch
) and if you have 7.2 compilers then you should probably get the 7.2 compiler
recommended patchset from www.sgi.com/Support
