calculate shading on your "flat" terrain polygons (faces) with lighting mode
"None".

the default pfdGeoBuilder modes, as set by the OpenFlight loader, include the
computation of missing normals. simply disable this mode, either:

{
        pfdConverterMode( "flt", PFFLT_COMPUTENORMALS, FALSE );
        pfdLoadFile( "file.flt" );
}

or with perfly:

perfly -y flt,5,0 file.flt
