You can convert all your .flt databases to a fast-loading format beforehand.

Use pfconv. This tool comes with IRIS Performer. It reads in your .flt files
and converts & saves them to a Performer-internal format called .pfb (Performer
binary).

Since all the assembly and other scene graph pre-digestion is done up front, it
loads a lot faster.
