Hi pfFolks!

We are doing a driving simulation here at our facility in Munich on the
following configuration:

ONYX2 IR2, 6 CPU's, 512 MB RAM, 2 RM's (64 MB TexMem), IRIX 6.4.1,
Performer 2.2, OpenFlight-Loader 15.4fi.

We are now in the performance tuning stage (what did you expect !), and
keep getting some strange results from the pfStats, especially with the
texture count displayed in pfStats; this count is typically higher than
the number of textures used in the Flight-File.
We isolated this problem down to a simple perfly-configuration, where we
load one model at a time, and compare the number of textures in the
flt-file and in pfStats.
Basically we end up with three categories of models:
1. models without DOF-beads: the xform-count in pfStats is 3 (what seems
to be ok with a light source), number of textures (e.g. 5) equals the
number displayed by the Flight-loader. This is what we expected.

2. models without DOF-beads: the xform-count in pfStats is 3 (ok), but
the number of textures in pfStats is higher than the number displayed by
the Flight-loader (why ?)

3. models with DOF-beads: the xform-count in pfStats is always "3+<# of
DOF-beads>" (which is ok). However, those models show a texture-count in
pfStats that is significantly higher than the number of textures
referenced. Examples are:
- model with 4 DOFs, that shows 6 textures in pfStats as opposed to 3
textures in the flt-file
- model with 6 DOFs, that shows 11 textures in pfStats as opposed to 3
textures in the flt-file.

QUESTIONS:
1. Why do I have category2-models, i.e. what causes more textures to be
kept in pfStats than in the flt-file ?
2. Why do DOF-beads increase the number of textures in the scene (as
displayed by pfStats) ?

As we are having a significant number of models with/without DOFs in our
scene, this seems to have a big impact on our performance.
So, can anyone help ???

Munich says pfHi.
