Use the proxy texture target to explore this with different
formats and filters.
Size depends on MIP mapping and on internal format.
Just thinking out loud for a moment, on iR for 2D
texture (not 3D) texture is split into 2 banks for MIP
mapping, also when MIP mapping you cannot have a single
image filling one bank so that reduces you to 4Mb
image size which would be 1k by 1k for 32 bit image eg
RGB8 or RGBA8 but you should be able to get 2k x 1k
for 16 bit image eg RGB5. If you don't need MIP mapping
you should be able to get double these dimensions.
If you want _really_ large textures then you should use
CLIP mapping but on 16 Mb RMs you will probably be
limited to 1k x 1k insets.
64 Mb RMs will eliminate the restriction you are
currently encountering.
