This probably isn't much help and it seems obvious but the example
program multichan.C could be modified to accept the number of channels
desired on the command line then using pfStats you could do some
measurements with a sample database which is relavent to your project.

This is just a suggestion I don't have any SGI benchmark numbers to
give you. I guess the big hangup with drawing multiple channels is
the gfx context switch plus you have to download the textures all
over again.
