1. There may be bugs in the PC implementation of OpenGL, that cause this
behaviour - or -

2. You might be running into a lighting condition in which the specular
reflection, which depends also on viewer position causes the object to
be very bright - or -

3. You may have very thick white fog that makes the object white as you
get further.

Whiy don't you try disabling fog (glDisable (GL_FOG) ), and turning off
speculat lighting with glLightfv.
