I've taken many snapshots of channels with pfuSaveImage on iR so I can
confirm that it works. I didn't have to do anything special to make it
work either.

You could try loading a model into perfly and pressing 'x' to save an
image - that uses pfuSaveImage. If that test doesn't work then you
really do have a problem.
