You want to map a one component texture, which is what you
have after the texture selection of a particular component,
to an arbitrary colour, and colour tables can do this
The table information can hold a complete rgba ramp for
your intensity map, and this is without considering the
glColorTableParameterSGI call which could probably also
do what you need.
