Most definitely, R10000 has better *graphics* performance, pushing
geometry to
an iR pipeline, than a R4400. Although neither can push geometry fast
enough
to "satisfy" the graphics hw (GE), the R10000 does a much better job.
I am not sure if this is a function of the actual CPU chip or the
overall CPU
board re-design, but the end-result is the same for you.
I haven't experienced any significant problems with R10000 stability on
6.2.
