Performer is a layer on top of OpenGL (or IrisGL). It is dedicated to real-time
 visualisation, and handle multiprocessing, multi-channel, multi-pipe ...

Performer knows about reading a database, OpenGL does not know what a file is.

So the 'same application' on top of OpenGL would have include a lot of code to do
what Performer does, and would necessitate a lot of knowledge of how to use openGL
and IRIX to get the best performance out of an SGI.

Unless the application is not a VisSim application ;-)
