Such faith :-)

There are probably some O2 specific optimisations which could be done
but it's still your best route.

You may want to do stuff like modify the texture filters to point
sampled MIPmapped min and point sampled mag and reduce blended
transparency, perhaps just use glalphafunc to cull transparent
pixels on 'cookiecut' style textures.

These should go a long way towards improving fill performance.
