What's wrong with a simple:

   if ( you_need_wireframe )
   {
     pfEnable ( PFEN_WIREFRAME ) ;
     pfOverride ( PFSTATE_ENWIREFRAME, PF_ON ) ;
   }
   else
     pfOverride ( PFSTATE_ENWIREFRAME, PF_OFF ) ;

...somewhere just before pfDraw() ???
