In October 1996 the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF) in Paderborn,
Germany, a new museum for information technology, opens its doors for
the visitors.
The HNF unites the historical dimension of a museum for information
technology with the current and forward-looking topics of a forum in
a combination that is unique. Please see http://www.hnf.de for more
information about the HNF.
A so-called "Software-Theater" (software theatre) will be one of the
central exhibits of the museum. The Software-Theatre offers room for 25
visitors and has got progressive technology for presentations, including a
SGI Onyx/RE2 computer (4 150 MHz CPUs, 2 pipes with 2 RM4 boards each),
a 6 square metres stereo-projection-screen, 3D stereo sound and VR interface
equipment.
In the software-theatre visitors will learn in a concise, impressive and
entertaining way the fields of use, the possibilities and the potential
of computer generated graphics today and in the future. The programme will
contain, among other CG related topics:
- Virtual Reality applications
- interactive computer graphic applications
- computer graphic animations.
The applications above will cover the use of computer graphics in areas like
industrial engineering, science and research, entertainment, movie and
television, arts and medicine.
Our working group at the Heinz Nixdorf Institut (http://wwwhni.uni-paderborn.de)
is responsible for the technical setup, maintenance and operation of this software
theatre. We hope to find people who would like to support us in creating an exciting
programme by supplying demonstrations of their work. What we need are outstanding
examples of computer graphics / VR applications on videotape or data sets which
can be run on the above mentioned hardware environment. In return the Heinz Nixdorf
MuseumsForum offers you a very widely recognised platform for your work in a
professional environment.
Don't hesitate to contact me if I you have further questions about the Software
Theater in the HNF.
Thanks in advance for positive reply,
Christoph Brandt
