I've done lat/lon conversions successfully zillions of times (and
unsuccessfully zillion-zillions!). To answer inteligently I need more info and
suggest you email me directly (graham++at++sgi.com). You don't mention whether
you're looking at your map orthographically or obliquely, if obliquely then you
have to go through all the 2D to 3D, screen coords->3D coords-> db, etc. first.
If it's a straight 2D projection should be easy. If a 3D problem this could
become mega-fun if you have to start figuring out what map projections you are
using, etc. The good news is there is lots of free code on this.
