maybe a little bit off the topic, but i have seen this kind of ideas to
avoid unnecessary core dump files. especially from softimage users :-)
mkdir core
or touch core; chmod 000 core
i recommend:
limit coredumpsize 0 // disable
limit coredumpsize unlimited // enable
as alias:
alias lim "limit coredumpsize 0"
and alias ulim "limit coredumpsize unlimited"
makes it quite easy to switch on per shell level from coredumping to
not coredumping. i mp mode perfomer is still able to create a file of
512 kb. but thats no harm, even when i have no idea how its happening.

ps.:p
for "normal" users, the adminstrater can put lim in the system wide
csh.cshrc, because i dont think they ever need a core dump.
