Spherical projection on I.Reality

I need to project a Performer visual on a dome.To do that i have to made a image
distorsion . A SGI solution is to keep the image in the framebuffer, to use it
like a texture to map on a spherical form. I think it' s possible to do that
with a postDraw multipass callback.

First, does Performer have functions to do that ( keep the image on Framebuffer)
Second, my customer want to use only 3 channels to have a Fov of 180 by 80.
Do you think if it's possible and what are the problems with this sort of large
angles.
