pfBuffer questions

I am running an executable that uses pfBuffers for dynamics paging.
The original was written for Performer 2.0 Alpha. The version compiled
under release Performer 2.0 has been changed to call pfMergeBuffer()
after each pfBufferAddChild() to avoid the nb_cleanup() coredump.
The performance between the two programs is very different. The
2.0 alpha version runs significantly faster than the 2.0 release version.
Is there anything that can be done to minimize the impact of calling
pfBufferMerge() after each pfBufferAddChild() ? pfFlatten'ing made
no apparent difference. The only other changes that were made was
to cleanup a few calls to the pfPipeWindows routines.
Ideas/Comments/Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark Visconti
