pfBuffer experts!

I am having some trouble with pfBuffer::merge. I have an application
that is constructing a scene graph segment in a process forked after
pfConfig(). The scene graphs are constructed top-down so that the
parents are new'd before their children. When I'm done I call
rootGroup->bufferAddChild( stub ) successfully where rootGroup is in the
main Performer buffer and stub in in my forked process' scope.
Immediately after I call pfBuffer::merge and the program crashes.

I just thought that if there was something obvious that I could do or
try I would appreciate hearing about it - this is urgent!!

Thanks,
