The base Indy gfx system is a dumb frame buffer and has no hardware
acceleration, and certainly no hardware textures.
To get hardware textures, you need a higher end graphics system
like: RealityEngine, Impact, ... None of which are available for
the Indy [yet??].

The short of it is that Doom "cheats" a little bit. There is a vast
difference between a fixed game-type application and general 3D.
