The loaders are installed under /usr/lib/libpfdb/
        libpf3ds_igl.so
        libpf3ds_ogl.so
Do you have these?

To debug the situation, you can set
        setenv PFNFYLEVEL 5
        setenv PFLD_LIBRARY_PATH .

This will cause lots of verbage about every place it is
looking for a 3ds .so and hopefully the problem will
make itself obvious.
