It's not quite true, but it's close.

Impact is an OpenGL machine. Performance-sensitive users (and
this is probably just about everybody) will want to convert any
IRIS GL programs that they use to OpenGL for best performance.

The (almost-here) IRIS Performer 2.0 supports both IrisGL and
OpenGL, so that users get the best performance on all machines.
The previous Performer 1.2 only supports IrisGL.

For customers wanting to run IRIS GL programs on Impact, there
is an Iris-GL-On-Opengl (IGLOO) tool that is invoked to provide
run-time IrisGL support. This is usable with Performer 1.2, so
the rumor is not quite true in detail, but in spirit, nearly all
Impact customers using Performer will want Performer 2.0 and the
native OpenGL support that it provides.
