Blocking application

Hello,

I have a strange problem with my application. I have a quite complex
scene, around 800000 triangles. However, most of the
complexity is concentrated in rather small objects. I use LOD to
switch the objects off when they are not needed (I can't get simplified
models for real LOD management).
The problem is the following: when I start walking around the program blocks for
several seconds when a complex object gets into the viewing frustum or
when it is switched on by LOD. This happens only on the first encounter
with each object, so once i have walked through the whole environment the
things go smoothly. Still, this is quite annoying. I run an an Onyx RE2.
The behaviour is the same with or without textures.

Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong?
