If you are using the OpenFlight loader ... one thing it has never supported is
object and face bead transparency. If this is what you're trying, you need to
instead use a transparent material (or texture) on the appropriate faces.

I am adding support for face transparency today as a matter of fact :) . The
next loader update will be available from MultiGen Technical Support by next
week. It'll be revision R14_2d for Performer 1.2.

Object bead transparency is going to be removed from the OpenFlight
specification at some point in the future.
