David,

I couldn't agree more .... I hate re-inventing the wheel, and anything that
gets the standard stuff out of the way quickly makes more time for everyone to
get on with doing really cool stuff.

I'm a newbie so I can't start the ball rolling yet, but its a principle I
highly recommend.

So out of desperation to have something to offer (money where mouth is and all
that), if anyone has been trying to put arrays of objects in shared memory
(performer or otherwise) you'll have noticed that SGI compilers default to
::new for array allocation, and its usually undesirable to have the entire
world in shared memory .... there is a solution using templates which has some
drawbacks, but does make the process of arrays in shared memory at least
code-able, and usable ..... anyone want it ?

Simon
