  You should have no problem recreating this in Performer just like you
did in gl. Performer supports the geometry sets just like gl. As far as
showing off portions you may use the Level of detail functions or simply
(I think better method) break up your large geometry set into any number
of groups and display them as needed. Another tool is to use the far
clipping plane to adjust what is seen.
