I`m sorry , I haven't more infos. But only one remark is that
I believe that you could not install some signal handlers in the
Performer-processes (APP, CULL, DRAW) because some (which ones ???) maybe are
used to Sync the processes. Maybe I'm wrong, but it was the only restriction
(the use of signal) people of SGI France told me.

That's why, I believe you could not use sockets with SIGIO in the APP process.

If anybody has informations, I'm interested.
