Unresolved error when using pfiv1.6

I've run into a problem when compiling performer applications
now that I've upgraded to pfiv1.6. All compiles produce the
same error, case in point:

{shadow,IRIX}45:make
making OPT version of sfly
        cc -xansi -D__STDC__ -I.. -I/usr/src/Performer/include -O -o sfly.OPT

pfiv1.6 was installed as root, using the install script provided in the
tar file (ftp'ed from sgigate.sgi.com). Any clues as to what I'm doing
wrong?

System info:

Performer 1.2
Irix 5.3
