:I heard that Performer 2.0 will be built on OpenGL. If this version is

:glad I will develop truely multi-threaded application for NT..

Let me take a few minutes of your time to answer this and a few
related questions about Performer 2.0 that have been asked.

First, IRIS Performer 2.0 is now in the beta-test phase. We will
be showing it at SIGGRAPH so be sure to stop by the SGI booth(s)
so we can meet you in person and for a look at the new features.
As you might expect from this news, we plan to release it soon.
The release date will depend on beta-tester feedback, but we're
now expecting an early September release, at the latest.

Secondly, this new release of Performer will support *both* the
OpenGL and IRIS-GL graphics libraries (via one Performer API). It
also supports *both* 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems as well
as *both* C and C++ APIs, which is to say that a full software
installation is takes more than a few megabytes. You can seen demos
of new features and see programs running in all modes at the show,
and you can see the Performer-Powered Indigo2/Impact at the Friends
of Performer event during SIGGRAPH (by invitation, be sure to ask).

Finally, the idea of porting IRIS Performer to other machines and
operating systems is an interesting one. Several game development
groups have already used this idea, and have developed subsets that
run on PC's and game consoles for their internal use. No one has
come to us with questions about NT yet though. (If you have ideas
or questions about this, please contact me).

Thanks,
Michael Jones
