Filtering of DMA DTED database

Sorry, for sending this question here but I think people from
this mailing list can answer my question.

I would like to know if anybody has source code to reduce the number
of polygons for representing the terrain from DMA DTED files. I'm pretty
sure somebody creating visual databases from DMA DTED files for a
Performer application has already been coding this thing before.
