I've also found this path from .dxf to .iv to Performer through the
pfiv loader works well.

To get the DxfToIv loader you have to sign a beta-site license. Try
writing to Gavin Bell at gavin++at++engr.sgi.com .

The Inventor loader is available at:

 sgigate.sgi.com:~ftp/pub/Performer/src/pfivXX.tar.Z ,

where XX is the version #.
