You can browse through:

        file://avalon.chinalake.navy.mil/pub/objects/

This is one of the larger public domain archives of 3D objects around.
With a quick scan I saw a 747 in obj format and a DC-10 in 3D studio. These
are contributions from all over so the quality levels vary.

The Defense Mapping Agency has DTED data for much of the Northern Hemisphere.
I have a 5-6 page Postscript file put out by the Army describing DMA and
USGS sources for digitial elevation data if your interested. It lists
some contacts for info on DMA as:

        Jeff Messmore (202) 355-2759
        Rob Lambert (202) 355-2764
        U.S. Army Engineer Topographics Laboratories
        CEETL-TL-CR
        Fort Belvoir, Virginia 22060-5546

Not sure how current the doc is so those contact may or may not work.
