:I have an application where I need to take a number of 3d models
:from an Intergraph MicroStation and eventually display them in
:Performer. I am looking for help in determining how to convert
:the models into a format suitable for a 3d modeling packages
:such as ModelGen or whatever. MicroStation supports export
:into DXF (which CANNOT be used because of the information lost in
:conversion) and the IGES format. Does anyone know how to convert
:a model in IGES into something Performer can read (like OpenFlight,
:or IRIS Inventor, or whatever is appropriate)? Can someone point
:me to a modeler program or a bit of conversion code?
The IRIS Inventor group has developed a new suite of sophisticated
file converters which I believe includes the IGES format. Once our
new comprehensive Inventor-format loader is available, the best
sounding route would be:
MicroStation -> IGES -> IGEStoIV -> LoadIv -> Performer
My understanding is that the Inventor group is now in the beta-test
phase on the new converters, so you may want to check with Gavin
Bell (gavin++at++engr.sgi.com) about obtaining the IGES converter and
then keep checking the info-performer mailing list for the availablity
of our new comprehensive Inventor loader.
