: We've had partial success loading inventor files into perfly program.
:Particularly I've created a simple black box (cube) with showcase and
:saved it as an Inventor file. I can the see the Inventor file with an
:Inventor ivquicken. When I tried loading the box.iv *BINARY* file into
:perfly I obtained similar problems as you did. My solution was to use
:ivquicken to "improve" the inventor scene graph's rendering performance
:and to convert it to an ascii file. Then perfly had no problem loading
:the ascii file, though perfly may have problems with some Inventor ascii
:files some of the time etc. Anyway, I've read that the Performer's
:function that reads the iv files is not complete and thus misbehaves when
:its given an Inventor symbol that it does not recognize.
The Inventor loader shipped with IRIS Performer 1.2 is a wimpy one. It
only reads the ASCII format files. In fact, page 209 of the IRIS Performer
Programming Guide says:
The IRIS Inventor data-file loader provided with IRIS Performer
reads only ASCII-format IRIS Inventor 1.0 files. If you have files
in the IRIS Inventor binary format you must convert them to ASCII
using the ivcat program before importing them into IRIS Performer.
:But I sure wish that Performer had it together with these Inventor files.
Good news for you, then, since the next release of IRIS Performer will
include the fully-capable loader for IRIS Inventor 2.0 files that we are
now in the final testing and tuning stages of developing. We hope to
make it available to the info-performer mailing list readers within the
next few days for your evaluation.
