Mark Ferneau corrected me on my multipipe statement. A single IrisGL
process can drive multiple hardware pipes (except in 5.2 due to a bug),
but switching between them is more expensive in IrisGL than in OpenGL.
Generally, with multiple pipes, you want a rendering process (and CPU)
for each to keep both pipes fully utilized. Performer effectively
enforces this.
