Performer on GTXB

Hi
I have been offered to buy an old 220/GTXB at a VERY reasonable price.
I know that SGI will not be supporting Open GL ( how open is it ?) on
this platform but how about Performer using good old GL ?
Will this be a good machine to use for texture mapped applications ?
How about modelling tools for VR-type applications. I am planning to use
the system for development of applications to be used on Onyx/RE2 systems.
Will I run into other compatibility issues here ?
