Here is an extraction from the Performer man page on pfGetPipe(),
et al.:
The multiprocessing mode set by pfMultiprocess is used for all rendering
pipelines. However, IRIS Performer never multi-threads the application
process although the application may choose to do so. If the application
itself multiprocesses, all IRIS Performer calls must be made from the
process which calls pfConfig or results are undefined. When using multi-
ple pipelines, the cull stage must be forked (PFMP_FORK_CULL). If not,
IRIS Performer defaults to PFMP_APP_CULL_DRAW.
Thus, I cannot sproc a GUI, it must be run separately in another shell.

Subject: IOCTL error
Ok, I hope this is not a bogus question. I have an application
which sprocs the IG and GUI. The IG, of course, initializes and
runs Performer (right now only one process APPCULLDRAW). I want
the GUI to be able to use GL (or whatever, X). I understand the
drawbacks with respect to performance, but I at least want it
to work. Is this even possible?
I get some kind of IOCTL error from OpenRN -1 (I think). And then
the machines locks up ice cold. Only the on/off switch and reset
button work at that point (Which is why I cannot remember the
exact error statement :).
