IOCTL error

Ok, I hope this is not a bogus question. I have an application
which sprocs the IG and GUI. The IG, of course, initializes and
runs Performer (right now only one process APPCULLDRAW). I want
the GUI to be able to use GL (or whatever, X). I understand the
drawbacks with respect to performance, but I at least want it
to work. Is this even possible?

I get some kind of IOCTL error from OpenRN -1 (I think). And then
the machines locks up ice cold. Only the on/off switch and reset
button work at that point (Which is why I cannot remember the
exact error statement :).
