In addition to the pointers Jim mentioned, you might also look at the
research being done at the Fraunhofer Graphics Lab in Darmstadt Germany.
In particular Peter Astheimer has done work representing sonically and
visually, how different room surfaces affect the perception of a sound
in one location of the room from the source sound in another location.
