Viewport changes themselves are not terribly expensive on
RealityEngine, but matrices are usually cheaper (viewport
costs about 7X a push/mult/pop matrix). But are you
talking about 6 or 60 scenes and channels? And what's
your frame rate? I wouldn't worry about the performance
impact 6 channels at 20-30Hz. But I wouldn't bet on 60
being painless.
