Yes.

The parallel switch method you described is the safest to
insure compatibility. In the next release, at the very least,
we will expose some tokens that already exist to let you
influence the traversal behavior of switches, sequences, LODs
and layers similar to the PFUTRAV_BLAH_BLAH tokens affect the
pfu traversal.
