Really the only point is that you need to specify the additional
geometric information for the intermediate model. Most modelling
tools and file formats don't provide any place to store that
information except as a new model. Once you have such an intermediate
model, it's just a matter of writing a loader that can appropriately
combine that model with its topological twin and decide which
attributes need to morph and which do not.

Better modelling tools will make this easier. I believe that
Multigen V14 has support for morph LOD specification.
