Performer highlighting was implemented in 1.2 specifically for this
purpose. You can temporarily change the color of an object, draw it
with outlines, or interesting multi-color patterns, and even make
them transparent - all without destroying the man pfGeoState of the object.
You can highlight specific pfGeoStates, turn it on on a pfGeoState, or
enable it globally.
The pickfly example uses highlighting to color the selected object.
        /usr/src/Performer/src/sample/pickfly
There is a highlighting example at
        /usr/src/Performer/pguide/libpr/progs/hlcube.c
and you can man on pfHighlight.
