cout produces coredump

I'm writing an importer to be used by the IRIS Performer
sample programs (e.g. perfly) and I'd like to use the
C++ style I/O (cout, cin). So I've edited LoadFile()
in libpfsgi/loadfile.c to call my import-function.
As soon as I introduce any cout or cin statement in my importer
a coredump is produced.

Any hints?
