Right now, Performer does not have direct "DIS capabibilities" in it, as you
probably are aware DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation) can mean a lot of
things, in the communication sense I take it you are asking whether it has DIS
communications ability?. On March 17, 93 the IEEE approved DIS 1.0 as IEEE
1278 which is a communications standard for PDU's. Performer does not directly
support this, several firms offer communications package which interface with
this standard, and Performer can be used as the visual processing layer to
optimally view your DIS based scene.

If you are talking about the DIS portion that deals with the visual
data-base, Performer can help you immensely there. DIS uses a SIF (std
interchange format) that evolved from project 2851. One can write a loader
that loads this SIF data into Performer, or use one of the popular modelling
packages to convert SIF data to a "standard" format with an existing loader.

As part of the Performer 1.2 development and release cycle the Hunter
Liggett database that was used at iitsec 93 was converted by Software Systems
into a MultiGen v-13.0 file format (which they supply a performer loader for).
This database has been partially optimized for use with Performer 1.2 and
should run at 30HZ on a 4 CPU Onyx.

There will be a DIS database, moving models, free-be textures, etc.
included on the forthcoming Performer 1.2 CD available shortly.

Loads, dpending on which special interest group you are interested in?, There
is not a PerformerDIS mailing list, but if there is enough interest I would be
happy to form one?
